Skin is the largest sense organ of human body which even covers the other sense organs. It is a very sensitive part of human body. Any pathological change in the external or internal environmental factor shows great effect on Skin which lead to improper functioning. Atopic dermatitis is one of the skin disorder which is also called as Asthma-Eczema Syndrome. It is usually associated with the symptoms like cough with expectoration, fever & other respiratory symptoms. In Ayurvedic literature all the skin disorders are mentioned under the heading of Kustha. Pama (Atopic Dermatitis) is one of the Kshudra Kustha (minor skin disease). Atopic dermatitis shows similarities with Pama. As childhood age is the predominance stage of Kapha Dosha & Atopic dermatitis shows respiratory symptoms, Pippali (Piper longum) which is specially used as Rasayana (rejuvenator) for respiratory system and also indicated for Kustha. Vidanga (Embellia ribes) has Ruksha (arid) & Krumighna (antihelimenthic) property, so it is useful in this condition. Here a case report of a seven years child treated with Ayurvedic medicines and showed significant cure by Sitopaladi Churna, Triphala- Gandhakvati, Pippali-VidangaKshirpaka.

Ayurveda emphasizes on Panchakarma for management of various diseases and to prevent their recurrence. The management of almost all the diseases can be done by understanding and following the basic principles of management as given in our ancient texts. According to Ayurveda diseases occur in the body due to two factors one is Nija (within the body), other is Aganthuja (external factors). Rotator cuff tear is one such injury comes under the umbrella of injuries due to overuse. In present study a female patient of 45 years having rotator cuff tear is managed with the Panchakarma procedures like Abhyanga and Nasyam along with Shamana Oushadis. Significant result was observed and there was improvement in symptoms. It also provides results in improving range of movements & pain intensity.

Pumsavana is one of the sixteen rituals known as Shodasha Samsakaras which are adopted at every stage of life to ensure a fruitful and prosperous life. This procedure can be done before conception or immediately after conception for achieving a healthy progeny during Pushya Nakshatra. Pumsavana Karma aims mainly at Garbha Dharana and Garbha Sthereekarana. The methods prescribed for pre-conception, Pumsavana should be brought into practice for a planned pregnancy to get a healthy child and making the couple's well prepared physically, psychologically, socially and emotionally for future events. Vitiligo is a skin disorder characterized by white depigmented patches. Though this disorder has no significant physical consequences and hence is not life-threatening but the social and psychological stigma attached with it makes it one of the most life-altering diseases. Various treatment modalities available in contemporary system of medicine but, these are time consuming and some even have adverse effects. So, it becomes a challenge to provide effective and safe treatment protocol for vitiligo. Numerous studies have been carried out in Ayurveda for the management of vitiligo which is comparable to Shvitra. The current attempt has tried to review works done in Gujarat Ayurved University, Jamnagar. Total twenty three studies on Shvitra were reviewed. It is observed that internal medicines as well as external applications are also useful in this condition. This review helps the scholars for better treatment modalities for management of disease.

Computers have become an indispensable part of modern life. Working for long hours in front of the computer is no longer confined to the office. Computers are now extensively used in schools and at home as well. History has demonstrated that with each new technological innovation there have been profound changes in the quality of life of human beings .Computer vision syndrome (CVS) remains an underestimated and poorly understood condition at the workplace. About 70% of computer workers worldwide report having vision problems and there is an alarming increase in the number of people affected. The main purpose of the study was to assess the knowledge of computer users about CVS in Kerala. This study aims to contribute information on CVS in Kerala and the findings would assist employers and other stakeholders to develop strategies that will be used to reduce CVS. Eye exercises like palming, blinking, eye movements are types of relaxing techniques that can be used for relaxing the eye muscles and neck movements for neck muscles to reduce fatigue during long hours of work and improve their performance at the work place. This study was done among professionals working for long hours with computers. This techniques gave significant reduction in eye strain, watering of eyes, head ache, dryness of eyes, neck pain etc. which helped the professionals to improve their workplace productivity.

Aamvata i.e., Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an auto-immune disorder in which immune system attacks on joints which causes inflammation. The management of this disease is difficult and patients are continuously looking with a hope towards Ayurveda to overcome this challenge. Phaltrikadi Churna is an Ayurvedic drug which pacifies Vata and Ama (undigested or toxic material present in body fluid) by their properties. Phaltrikadi churna is made up of ingredients like Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) Amalaki (Phyllanthus emblica), Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and Shunthi (Zingiber officinale) in equal quantities. These drugs possess the VataKaphahar properties which help in treating Aamvata. Presentwork was planned to evaluate efficacy of Phaltrikadi churna in the management of RA. 50 patients were randomly selected and divided into two groups. In experimental group A, Phaltrikadi Churna with Takra is given twice a day in the form of Churna whereas in control group B, Diclofenac sodium tablet (50 mg) bid was administered orally. It is observed that RA occurs in greater proportion in females than in males. It is seen between the age group of 3140 years. It is usually seen in people having mix diet and occurs in Vatakaphaj Prakriti (body constitution). It occurs more in Krura Koshta (those who have strong digestive capacity) and is commonly seen in educated peoples and its symptoms aggravates in cold weather. Phaltrikadi Churna is effective in Rasavaha and Asthivaha strotas. It can be an ideal treatment for early stage of Aamvata due its efficacy and the results which were found significant statistically in the study.

Vaman (induced emesis) is an important Panchkarma procedure which plays a vital role in preservation of health, prevention and management of diseases. It is the best Kaphhar treatment through its detoxification and bio-purification action and provides lasting relief. Children are tender, not matured; hence selection of patient for Vaman, drugs; procedure's duration, nature and proper execution as well as good qualities of ‘Chatushpad’ means doctor, paramedical staff, drug and patient are important. In the success of any Panchkarma, there are many other physiological aspects which are also noteworthy like age, strength, time, appetite, Koshta (nature of digestion), Prakriti (body composition) etc. The result of any Panchkarma is very fruitful if executed well otherwise leads to Vyapad means complications. There is lack of good practical judgment described in texts, also Vyapadas/Upadravas are not discussed in detail hence there is no sufficient confidence in performing Vaman in children. The present case series aims at highlighting the physiological aspects, pros and cons to be incorporated and care to be taken while performing ‘Vaman’ in pediatric age group. Common Vyapadas are Hin or Atiyog (less or over amount of emesis), aspiration of vomitus, bloody sputum, dehydration etc. It can be concluded that whether Vaman is either Sadya(instant) or classical, one can prevent and manage the complications by focusing on physiology and pathology of patient with the help of genuine ‘Chatushpad’ and by following the guidelines strictly as described in classical texts of Ayurveda.

Diabetes is a ‘silent killer’ as it makes the sufferer susceptible to develop its complications which hamper quality of life or may even be life threatening. Diabetic impotency signs and symptoms are strongly pointing towards some Pramehaupadravas (diabetic complications). Also Project study has been done on this subject for the prevalence of symptoms of diabetic impotency. The conclusion drawn from the study stated the Doshika predominance in Pramehaupadrava, based on ancient Ayurvedic text with respect to Diabetic Impotency. There is need to work on Diabetic impotency to discover possible Ayurvedic remedy so as to improve quality of life and allow diabetics to live a normal life. ‘Pramehamihira Taila Basti’ (administration of Pramehmihir oil by enema) was selected for the management of diabetes mellitus and Klaibya (impotency) as mentioned in Bhashajya Ratnavali. ‘Kaminimadvidhunan Ras ' another drug taken for the management of diabetic impotency. Clinical study was done on 20 patients which were divided in group A (Kaminimadvidhunan Ras 120mg daily in divided doses orally before meals for 4 weeks and in group B (Pramehamihira Taila Basti in 60ml Pratah Bhojanottara, after breakfast for 16 days. The assessment was done by Symptomatic criteria and Objective criteria like BSL, Glysulated haemoglobin and semen analysis. The present clinical trial concludes that there is no difference in efficacy on comparing both the groups hence Kaminimadvidhunan Ras and Pramehamihira Taila Basti both are effective in diabetes impotency but Pramehamihira Taila Basti yields better result than Kaminimadvidhunan Ras given orally.

In recent past there is cry to ban trade of Mercury and its gradual phase out by year 2020. Ayurveda community as ban on trade of Mercury will have a devastating effect on Ayurveda. Of late, doubts have been raised as to their utility and suitability as medicine. However, we also feel that it is mandatory to test raw materials used in Ayurvedic preparation for the presence of various toxic materials including heavy metal content. In the recent past several western research groups have high lightened pitfalls reporting the prevalence and concentration of heavy metals in Ayurvedic herbo-mineral preparations. In Ayurvedic system of medicine the formulations prepared with minerals are called as herbo-mineral preparations or Bhasmas in traditional. Bhasmas (incinerated metallic- mineral preparations) are in fact products of classical alchemy-inorganic compounds of certain metals and gems in a very fine powdered form, mostly oxides, made in elaborate calcinations processes perfected several centuries ago. In view of such ambiguity and the risk attendant to their inconsiderate use, there is an urgent need to study safety profile of metallic preparations and to elaborate factors affecting safety of such preparation. Some of the preparations are proved safe to use eg: Rasasindoor, Makardhawaj, Kajjali, Parpati etc. Hence factors related with drug absorption, metabolism and excretion in both Ayurvedic and Modern view have their unique importance in assuring safety and efficacy. In present work attempt has been made to present safety aspect of metallic drugs with special reference to previously mentioned factors.
