Prevalence of Bronchial asthma worldwide is 200 million with a mortality of 0.2 million per year. The disease causes a great burden on the number of lost school days and interferes with academic achievement and social interaction in children. The present study was aimed at evaluating the role of periodic Shodhana Chikitsa (Purification Therapy) in, Tamaka Shwasa (Bronchial Asthma) in children and also to study the effect of Shamana (conservative Treatment) followed by Shodhana as Apunarbhava Chikitsa (Treatment to avoid recurrence). A 12 year old female child came with complaints of breathlessness, cough, sneezing especially early in morning often since childhood. All these symptoms were aggravated in winter season. Patient was taking allopathic treatment and was continued on bronchodilators in the form of rota cap. As per etiological factors and pathogenesis the condition was diagnosed as Tamaka Shwasa and bronchial asthma according to modern science. So principle of the treatment was to focus on Strotorodha (Obstruction in systems). Knowing Doshprakopavashta (a season of vitiation of particular Dosha) periodic Shodhana was followed by Shamana Chikitsa. As patient came in Sharada Rutu (September-October month) first Virechana (Purgation Therapy) was given. In Vasant Ritu (February-March) Vamana (Emesis Therapy) was given. After each Shodhana, Shamana Chikitsa was continued where patient didn’t need any bronchodilator for 3 months. But as aetiology occurs, again patient came with same complaints. Then Shamana Chikitsa was continued and planned for Matrabasti (Oil Enema) in Varsha Rutu (July-Aug. month). Shodhana followed by Shamana Chikitsa gave marked relief from the complaints. All allopathic medicines were stopped especially rota cap (Bronchodilator). Stepwise periodic Shodhana Chikitsa according to Rutukala (Vitiation of Dosha in particular season) has proved to be effective. After Shodhana, Nidanaparivarjana (Avoiding etiological factors) was advised to be followed.

Background: Agadtantra is one of branch of Ayurveda which deals with detailed description about the Visha (poison), its classification and its examination, diseases caused by it, different treatment principles and preventive measures of Visha. Visha is not completely removed from body after treatment but resides in the body in the form of latent poison which is known as Dushivisha (weak poison). As it is of mild potency it does not produce immediate symptoms but lies in the tissue in dormant stage. This Dushi Visha enter in Rasraktadi Dhatu (tissue)and produce different manifestation. One of the manifestation produce by this Dushivisha after entering in Raktadhatu (Blood) is Kotha (urticaria) .The appearance of this Kotha is much similar to Urticaria. Urticaria is one of the forms of allergic reaction which is not a life threatening disorder, but of a chronic nature. Dushivishari Agad is one of the formulation that is described in Ayurvedic treaties the management of Dushivisha.

Sandhigata Vata (Osteoarthritis) is a common degenerative joint disorder particularly seen in elderly population. It is one of the most common musculo-skeletal problems in the world. It is age related as well as lifestyle disorder. Knee and hip are major large joints usually affected by Osteoarthritis. Therefore a clinical trial was conducted to assess the role of Januvasti in Sandhigata Vata and to find out the ideal aspect of knee j oint where it is more effective. The study design was open clinical trial with 30 sample size. Patients were selected on the basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Selected patients were given prior Deepana (appetizer) and Pachana (digestive) medicines internally. It was followed by Januvasti with Dhanwantaram Tailam for 14 consecutive days (total duration 42 days). It was done on anterior aspect of knee joint for 30 patients. Amount of Tailam required for a day was 200 ml and the duration of procedure was 30 minute/day. Assessment was done before and after study and during the follow ups using structured proforma. Follow up was done twice at regular interval of 14 days. Assessment of Osteoarthritis after treatment showed highly statistically significant results in symptoms such as pain, tenderness, stiffness, crepitus and walking difficulties. There was considerable increase in range of movement also. Thus Dhanwantaram Tailam Januvasti on anterior aspect of knee joint was found to be effective on Osteoarthritis ofknee joint.

Ayurveda as a preventive system of medicine has very important role to play for Life Style Disorder. The most common Life Style Disorder which is striking the individual at an early age is diabetes, cardio vascular diseases, hypertension etc. The present study is an attempt to verify the co-relation of practice of Ayurvedic principles in hypertension. Hypertension is not mentioned in Ayurveds compendia, but Dosha imbalance is the key factor for development of any disease according to Ayurveda. The pattern of Ahara and Vihara was observed and recorded in 100 subjects suffering from Essential Hypertension and 100 healthy volunteers having normal blood pressure. They were randomly selected by Lottery method from OPD and IPD of the institutional hospital. After obtaining informed consent from the subjects, both the subjects (hypertensive and normotensive) were given the proforma and all answers were recorded after thorough interrogation. The two groups were compared. It is seen that Ahara and Vihara plays an important role in proliferation and development of hypertension and hence it is highly recommended that following the principle of Ayurveda results in effective control of Hypertension.

The aim of the present study was to evaluate the efficacy of Kukkutanda Sweda (Upanaha method) in management of Manyasthambha (Cervical Spondylosis). Total 15 patients were treated in this randomized clinical study. Statistically results were significant (P<0.001) in criteria like pain, stiffness, flexsion, extension, right and left rotation range of movement. In the present study, 13.33%ofthe subjects got marked improvement, (53.33%), got moderate, 13.33% mild and 20% got poor response. Result of the study represent that Kukkutanda Upanaha Sweda with its Kapha-Vatashamaka and Vedanasthapaka properties is very much beneficial to instantly reduce pain and stiffness in Cervical Spondylosis.

Health and nutrition are the most important contributory factors for human development. The study aimed to understand the dietary habits and nutritional status of women at village Wadad of Wardha district, Maharashtra. Data for this survey was collected by a structured questionnaire through interviewing and observation during CHCP from dept of Swasthavritta, Mahatma Gandhi Ayurveda College Hospital and Research Centre (DMIMS).50 subjects have been interviewed from village Wadad. According to survey, more than 85% of our volunteers are literate Around 14% volunteers took fruits daily but around 10% volunteers have chicken on weekly basis and 8% people took chicken on monthly basis. Less than 14% women drank milk daily and 12% women drank on weekly basis. The women from Hindu religious background are vegetarian in general. 38% women ate egg once in a week and 2% consume it daily. Majority of the women that is around 46% had information of diet through the community health workers. The health of women is linked to their status in the society. Generally, at household level cultural norms and practices and socio-economic factors determine the extent of nutritional status among women. The overall dietary condition of women is not good at all in Wadad and they are not getting sufficient diet as per daily needs. Countries, undergoing an economic transition, such as nations emerging in the international marketing competition, have to face new challenges in the treatment of nutrition related problem.

Few natural products which has a tendency to kill the bacteria and give health and hygiene can be called as natural antibiotics. One of the main reasons, people wants to know more about Ayurveda is the dangerous side effects they experience many times, of today’s modern medicines. Indiscriminate use of modern drugs has started showing its hazards all over the world. Many a times we hear that Ayurveda cures the disease permanently and safely without any unwanted side effects.It is quite natural that Ayurveda, the oldest health care system in the world (about 5000 years old), does not have the word ‘Antibiotics’, But a curious search in its literature will definitely shows number of references stating that certain diseases are produced due to micro-organisms(Krimi) and Acharya have already mentioned many drugs and Kalpa to kill these micro-organism/Krimi. Hence we should have knowledge of the drug which can be used as a Natural Antibiotic to which we can call as Ayurvedic Antibiotic.
